The project idea promotes an innovative approach to the GHG emission reduction by establishing a system to support the early detection of forest fires, which are a source of GHG emissions. Their growing frequency and intensity are a result of climate change (concept of carbon sinks preservation). It also sets forth the GIS based forest mapping and the early detection system as an opportunity to prevent future damage and reduce disaster risks. The new way of collecting input data, through a specialized GIS vehicle, will allow the responders to quickly learn all the parameters needed for a timely response, as well as the characteristics of the fire-affected site.
